This is a permanent visa that allows you to live in Australia as the carer of a relative who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. This visa can be applied for:
- Within Australia – Subclass 836
- Outside Australia – Subclass 116
General eligibility of carer visa includes but not limited to:
- You must be sponsored by an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who requires care and is usually resident in Australia.
- Your sponsor must be over 18 years old.
- Your sponsor will need to go through a medical assessment by an approved medial provider and his/her condition.
- You must be a close relative.
- You must be willing and able to provide the person needing care substantial and continuing assistance as a carer on a long-term basis.
- Assessments will be made on your ability to provide care, financial capabilities to support yourself, your commitment to other family members, any experience you have had etc.
- Meet the health and character requirements as deemed necessary.
